Think of AUD when you write---or rewrite---your will
Submitted by mnadmin on Fri, 02/19/2010 - 02:55- We can make our lives sublime
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of timeThat metaphor must seem bothersome. Footprints on sand are quickly obliterated by a single ocean wave or blown away by a heavy wind. For something more lasting, when you write your will make a bequest to AUD. That act will have an effect on events for a long time, at least as AUD lasts, and that can be a long time. The more bequests, the longer and more productive a life for AUD.
If you write your own will, it should be quite simple: Read more...

By combining into a new 150,000-member national union affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the California Nurses Association, the United American Nurses, and the Massachusetts Nurses Association seemed to have taken a giant step toward creating the kind of united force so many nurse unionists are hoping for. Meanwhile, the move has triggered a swift and dizzying realignment among the many unions that aspire to represent registered nurses. Most notable and unexpected is the sudden love affair between top officials of the Service Employees and the California Nurses Association. From bitter competition over who shall represent nurses, they have shifted to an amicable agreement over dividing up the territory. Read more...

Moving slowly while opportunity knocks at IUOE L. 14
Submitted by mnadmin on Wed, 02/24/2010 - 02:12It was back in July 2008 that the government settled its civil RICO lawsuit against International Union of Operating Engineers Local 14, the 1,600-member union of heavy construction equipment and crane operators in New York City. The government charged that Local 14 had been dominated by organized crime; the consent decree that settled the case provides for two court-appointed monitors armed with wide-ranging powers to eradicate corruption, establish a fair job referral system, require fair elections, and promote union democracy. Dual power in the NYC Carpenters Union
Submitted by mnadmin on Fri, 06/03/2011 - 02:29
Throughout the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, in all of the United States, there remains one last remnant of union democracy, and that's in the New York City District Council of Carpenters. International President Douglas McCarron would like to eradicate this vestige so that the 22,000- member unit can be forced into the authoritarian mold of unionism he has successfully devised for his union everywhere else.
